Nowadays taste alone is not the decisive factor when it comes to buying food and beverages – many consumers prefer, instead, to take a critical look at the information imprinted on the package. For this reason, the application of product marking whose content and quality is flawless is an important task for manufacturers. It is particularly necessary to ensure the readability and correctness of the best-before date of perishable products. In case of complaints about faulty imprints, manufacturers run the risk of having to take back complete truck loads. This has a negative impact not only on margins but also on supplier assessment.
With its vision sensors Baumer is presenting an efficient and convenient solution for reliable detection of imprints correctness at drupa 2012.
With VeriSens® Baumer offers a component which enables highly efficient imprint checking in the production line. The vision sensors ID-110, XF-200 and XC 200 not only feature user-friendly configuration in four easy steps. They are also equipped with powerful algorithms which, for example, can read text contents and evaluate the printing quality. This technology enables reliable detection of faulty products which can be ejected from the production process as early as possible to increase productivity.
The various available options include not only text and number reading (OCR) but also comparison functions with statically or dynamically specified content as well as imprint quality assessment (OCV). Letters, numbers and special characters can be added easily and interactively using the teach-in function. In addition to the inspection of best-before dates, dot matrix characters can also be read during quality control of final packaging, e.g. for batch classification. The extensive functions featured in the XF-200 and XC-200 models allow the combination of further feature checks. For example, it is possible to check the presence, completeness and correct placement of labels and logos, or to check the correct positioning of the packaged product before imprinting.
All series feature a uniform and intuitive VeriSens® user interface to configure the Baumer vision sensors in just a few minutes. An integrated test environment also enables reliable functional testing before start of production. In addition connection options like Ethernet and digital I/Os facilitate industrial system integration. The metal housing with protection class IP 67 protects the vision sensors durably from harsh production conditions. More complex applications with changing requirements are supported by the XC-200 model with a C-Mount connector, a fully integrated flash controller for direct connection of also flashable illumination and resolutions up to 2 megapixels.
