Proven HeavyDuty principle

The extremely resilient housings are key for the unrivalled service life and reliability of the Baumer HeavyDuty encoders.
These robust housings with solid and thick walls are the perfect protection against outside impacts.
The torsion-resistant design is intended to endure high loads by shock and vibration.

Long-term stable sealing concept

The elaborate Baumer HeavyDuty sealing concept allows the protection class IP 66 and IP 67 over a wide temperature range up to +95 °C.
Thanks to a sophisticated combination of labyrinth and shaft seals, the HeavyDuty encoders are permanently protected against all types of solid, moist and pasty contamination.

EURO flange B10

The EURO flange B10 is the global mounting standard for HeavyDuty shaft encoders.
Baumer offers a unique portfolio of encoders and tacho generators with EURO flange B10.

Mechanical and electronic speed switches

Mechanical and electronic speed switches often fulfill the decisive safety function when overshooting or subtracting rotary speeds, in addition to the rotary encoder.
In applications with functional safety, our speed switches are classified as standard components as defined in the Machinery Directive 2006/42 / EC.
The assessment and certification of the complete system with speed switches according to e.g. EN ISO 134849 is mandatory to be carried out by a notified body.

Reliable protection against shaft currents

Particularly in the case of rotary encoders on frequency converter-controlled electric motors, current overshoots in the ball bearing of the rotary encoder may occur.
The lubricant can burn locally and the lubricant effect can be impaired.
Electrically insulated bearings provide a remedy for this failure.
Some hollow shaft designs come with isolated or hybrid ball bearings to compensate shaft currents.
Additional slip ring earthing (optional) can be used for capacitive shaft current discharge.
Solid shaft encoder designs provide spring washer couplings with isolated hub as protection against shaft currents.

Best electromagnetic compatibility

Baumer encoders with proven HeavyDuty technology by Hübner Berlin come in interference-resistant design which has been optimized according to latest EMC knowledge.
All products are tested upon burst reistance, at high-voltage up to 4 kV.

High-power signal output drivers

The incremental square signal outputs provide high-performance and short-circuit proof output drivers to endure current peaks up to 300 mA.
They ensure reliable signal quality even in long-distance transmission, i.e. HTL-P up to 350 m and TTL up to 550 m.

Durable double-sided bearing setup

Thanks to unmatched resistance to axial and radial load, the Baumer concept of bearings at both shaft ends is well proven and tried and tested for decades in electrical machinery engineering.
Baumer HeavyDuty encoders feature - wherever mechanically feasible - bearings at both encoder shaft ends for unrivalled long service life and maximum mechanical reserve capacity.

Outstanding, sea water resistant corrosion protection

Baumer HeavyDuty rotary encoders are ideally suited for corrosive environments thanks to optimized material selection and highly resistant coatings for successful long-term use, for example near shore and offshore.
Their corrosion protection corresponds to categories C4 or CX (C5-M) in accordance with the standard EN ISO 12944.
Special equipment options for operation in the arctic, tropics and desert are available on request.
