How robust are the new U500 and UR18 ultrasonic sensors?
The new U500 and UR18 ultrasonic sensors from Baumer are more robust than ever and highly cost-efficient. This is achieved by a PEEK foil, which protects the sensor element and is hermetically sealed by laser welding. The cubic U500 is identical in design and size to its optoelectronic pendant O500, offering the user a high degree of flexibility in the planning phase or for later retrofitting measures.

Level detection in the parts bunker
The ultrasonic 2-point switch is ideally suited for level detection (full / empty) e.g. in a parts bunker. By simply increasing the sonic beam width, parts with uneven surfaces, such as screws, are reliably detected. The teach-by-value function of the switching or analog distance output makes it possible to set the sensor to different machine types without having to fill up to different levels.
Presence detection in the food industry
The ultrasonic proximity switch (1-point) is ideally suited for presence detection in the food industry (splash zone), e.g. for detecting yogurt cups immediately before filling. The sensor withstands cleaning with aggressive media and at high pressures thanks to its hermetically sealed sensor element.
Transmitter and receiver are integrated in one housing. The sensor switches as soon as the sonic signal is reflected back by an object within the adjusted sensing range (background suppression principle).
