Achieving increased productivity and quality of work results, despite the lack of skilled operators, requires ever more assistance functions and autonomy in off-highway equipment.

To reliably advance machine functions, it is key to select the optimum sensor solution. We guide you to the right sensor solution for construction vehicle application fields like boom and bucket positioning, fluid handling and structural strain and damage monitoring. These application fields apply to many different vehicles such as excavators, dump trucks, dozers, wheel loaders, motor graders, drill rigs, concrete pumps and others.

Sensor solution guide

Baumer sensors give required feedback for determining position and orientation of working implements and vehicles to automate digging, grading and loading operations. Load cycles are moreover supported by measuring bucket and trailer load and steering angle. To ensure the equipment is operated safely, fluid sensors give feedback on the hydraulic oil condition like temperature, level, or pressure.

Application fields

Boom and bucket positioning

Boom and bucket positioning is required in many mobile machines e.g. to detect and limit the working area, to increase efficiency and to automate work processes up to autonomous applications and vehicles. Baumer sensors are used for positioning of rotary motion and boom angles, monitoring of linear movement and several tools. Boom and bucket angles, and the upper structure position together allow for a precise positioning of the bucket blade or other tools to automate and assist in work processes.

Hydraulic fluid monitoring

The hydraulic system is one of the key systems in modern mobile machines. Knowing parameters such as temperature, pressure, low fluid level, or leakage helps maintaining productivity and prevents damage.

Structural strain and damage

Many machines systematically experience large loads during operation. Sometimes these loads exceed the specifications and may lead to unjustified warranty claims. It may also be advantageous to monitor critical structural components and limit power output to avoid damage or notify the operator of an impending failure. This in turn reduces warranty cost and increases uptime.
