Storing behavioral user data for analytical purposes and statistics
The compact design of the rotary encoders of only Ø36 mm and the low construction depth of 26 mm allow installation even in very confined spaces. This allows simple and space-saving integration into compact servomotors with an edge dimension of 40 mm.
Accurate and reliable scanning
The new optical singleturn scanning with Blue LED technology has very parallel light due to the half wavelength. Thus, the distance between the disc and the diaphragm can be increased up to 3 times. The scanning is thus even more robust to shock, vibrations or shifts due to temperature influence.
Insensitive to interference
The optical rotary encoders detect and transmit the absolute positional information fully digital. They are therefore substantially more resistant to interference than, for example, resolvers.

An open, non-proprietary digital interface enables fast, secure and convenient data transmission.
Long life span
The scanning with Blue LED technology allows for a low current and optimal adjustment in case of aging, contamination or temperature influence. Especially at higher temperatures up to 115 °C, the lifetime of the LED and thus the encoder is significantly increased.
Insensitive to contamination
The three scanning paths, which are over 1 mm wide, are scanned according to the tried and tested Nonius principle and are thus extremely resistant to contamination.
Absolute motor feedback encoder – the precise solution for synchronous servo motors
Absolute motor feedback encoders detect speed, rotation direction and position at electro motors.
Their main task in the application is commutation as well as speed and position control at synchronous servo motors.
The number of steps per revolution defines the resolution. The position is acquired once after setup in a referencing cycle and then permanently retained.
Absolute motor feedback encoders are optimally harmonized for use at synchronous servo motors both in terms of their mechanical and electrical specifications. They are available with every standard digital motor feedback interface.
Incremental motor feedback encoders – the robust solution for asynchronous motors
Incremental motor feedback encoders detect speed, rotation direction and position of electro motors.
Their main task in the application is speed control at asynchronous motors.
The number of impulses per revolution defines the resolution. The position is acquired after every power-on in a referencing cycle, prior to starting pulse counting.
Incremental motor feedback encoders are optimally harmonized for use at asynchronous motors both in terms of their mechanical and electrical specifications. They are available with every standard electric interface.
In servo drive systems, HIPERFACE DSL® enables robust, interference-free data transmission between the controller and motor via two wires, directly integrated in the up to 100-meter-long motor cable, mostly with hybrid cables and with only one motor connector.
Special procedures and the use of pulse transformers ensure that the encoder signal is decoupled from interference on the motor power cable.
HIPERFACE DSL® complies with the RS485 standard and supports the functionality of the electronic nameplate for automatic controller parameterization.
Engine characteristics, serial and part numbers as well as further data are stored here and used for the automatic adjustment of the controller to the parameters of the engine as well as for servicing.

SCS open link (one-cable technology)
SCS open link is a motor feedback interface for the high-performance exchange of bi-directional data between motor and drive, such as position data of the encoder.
As a single-cable solution, SCS open link supports 2 and 4-wire applications and allows cable lengths up to 100 m, transmission rates up to 10 MBaud and controller cycles up to 32 kHz. For functional safety, the protocol is certified to SIL3 and Category 3.
The new, open market standard SCS open link is freely accessible via a transparent licensing model. The marketing takes place in a consortium of Baumer together with other rotary encoder manufacturers and network partners for cable and plug technology.
The compatibility of devices between each other is ensured by a dedicated certification partner.
BiSS Line (one-cable technology)
BiSS Line is an implementation of BiSS protocols for the increasingly popular one-cable technology.
BiSS Line has a Forward Error Correction (FEC). This enables a high availability of data communication, even in the case of disturbances and insufficiently optimized cable and plug connections.
BiSS Line is particularly suitable for servo motor applications. There, through the one-cable technology, effort and costs for the necessary cabling systems can be significantly reduced.
The BiSS Safety protocol provides functional security for secure data transmission in security applications and allows certification up to SIL3.
Blue LED for increased compactness, resolution and service life
In optical incremental and absolute encoders, blue LED photons with shorter wavelengths and lower penetration depths contribute significantly to improving signal resolution, amplitude, offset, harmonic distortion and jitter performance.
Fewer diffraction and a much sharper image enable encoders with a more compact design and higher resolution, for example, a resolution of up to 10,000 pulses per revolution in a Ø30 mm design.
Blue LED light increases contrast at lower noise levels, improves optical system efficiency and reduces power consumption.
This helps to improve the accuracy and service life of the encoder, especially at high operating temperatures.
The serial BiSS C interface is compatible with the well proven SSI interface (Serial Synchronous Interface).
However, BiSS C offers significant improvements with respect to SSI and supports continuous real-time communication between controllers and sensors.
The application spectrum for BiSS C ranges from production robotics, motor feedback applications and servo drives, motion control and position encoders to CNC machines.
