Hyperloop – Baumer sensors in a visionary project
Teaser_Unternehmen_SwissLoop_600x338.jpg

Hyperloop, the project brought into being by Elon Musk, aims at revolutionizing mobility. Similar to the principle of pneumatic tube transport, people or goods travel without resistance and virtually emission-free in a capsule speeding along in a vacuum tube at almost sound velocity.

From Zurich to Geneva in 15 minutes! The Swissloop team formed by ETH Zurich students took part in the competition with a high-speed prototype (Pod) and was one of the three finalists in Los Angeles. The Pod integrates ultrafast high-precision Baumer sensors to monitor the Pod speed and position and in parallel its drive and brake system. Innovative pressure sensors monitor pneumatics, high-precision laser distance sensors make sure the Pod is correctly hovering above the rail and other sensors acquire the Pod speed by detecting the reflective tape inside the tube during travel. This pioneering and visionary project expresses exactly the Baumer philosophy: innovative approaches to push visionary ideas and investing in research.
