Applications

DMS-based force sensors are the ideal solution for force measurement in most applications. In principle, force sensors are especially useful when it comes to measuring small forces. With its optimally coordinated product portfolio of force sensors for 50 – 20,000 N, Baumer covers a multitude of applications. In addition to force sensors, Baumer produces strain sensors for measuring higher forces, which are simple to install in the respective structure.

Technology

Baumer force sensors usually consist of a spring body and strain gauges. The spring body of the sensor deforms when force is applied, resulting in strain on the material surface. The strain is measured using the strain gauges applied to the surface of the spring body. The strain gauges convert the mechanical strain into an electrical resistance change and act as mechanical-electrical converters. The intelligent connection of the individual strain gauges to a Wheatstone bridge enables the measurement of even the smallest strains. The strains, measured with the help of strain gauges, thus generate voltage change proportional to the force.
