Michael Steinicke \(left\) and Dr. Sebastian Siegel \(right\) of the Baumer Vision Competence Center are happy about the positive feedback and first place ranking.
Yesterday, the attendees of the Wiley Industry Days were eagerly awaiting the announcement which product has won the inspect award 2021. The yearly awarded prize presented by the publisher Wiley-VCH honors the most innovative products in industrial image processing. Out of the large number of product proposals submitted, an expert jury nominates 20 finalists in two categories and presents them in their trade magazines “inspect” and “messtec drives automation”. The readers are requested to vote for their favorite product in the categories “Vision” and “Automation and Control”. In parallel, the nominated products are presented on the related portals for online voting. In the Vision category, the robot-compatible VeriSens XF/XC900 vision sensors with automated coordinate alignment convinced the jury and were awarded first place.

For Michael Steinicke, Product Manager at the Baumer Vision Competence Center, it is clear why the VeriSens vision sensors with the intelligent SmartGrid calibration target have convinced both market and users: “We have made Vison Guided Robotics so easy that everybody can use it. ” The secret lies in the chessboard-arranged bit pattern which enables the unique automated coordinate alignment feature. It not only eliminates the conventional hassle of manual “hand-eye” coordination but it takes only a few minutes to give “eyesight” to Universal Robots – at higher accuracy in parallel. In addition, the patent-pending SmartGrid supports automatic teaching of image rectification for image distortion correction in real time. A mouse click will suffice to eliminate any impairments by lens or mounting – without affecting the following processing time. Converted to world coordinates, VeriSens is receiving the scaling specifications directly via the SmartGrid. In addition, teaching of 3D orientation enables automatic adjustment to distance.

VeriSens XF/XC900 vision sensors essentially expand robot functionalities in image processing. Freely placed parts are precisely recognized and gripped even beyond fixed waypoints, objects will be reliably identified and sorted based on various feature checks which allows for reliable quality checks with robot precision.
