The right force sensor for the application
The selected altAttribute does not exist!

The DLM series offers the right solution for any type of force measurement. The standard portfolio consists of three designs: button, inline, and screw-on. The button variation is suitable for measuring compressive forces, while the inline and screw-on versions are designed for static force measurement as well as dynamic compressive and tensile forces. Thus, inline and screw-on sensors are optimized for alternating force directions. The force sensors cover measurement ranges from 0 to 50N and 0 to 20,000N. Thanks to their small dimensions the force sensors can be used even when space is limited.

From sensor to control system

Measuring amplifiers are used for signal transmission between force sensors and the control system. They convert the electrical signal into analog values. In addition to our sensors, we offer measuring amplifiers and cables, thus enabling the simple implementation of the complete measuring chain. Depending on the input card the measuring amplifier is available with current or voltage output. In addition, we offer the corresponding accessories such as connection cables for simple and fast connection to the process.

Applications

DMS-based force sensors, also known as force transducers or load cells, are the ideal solution for force measurement in most applications. In principle, they are especially useful when it comes to measuring small forces. With its optimally coordinated product portfolio of force sensors for 0 – 20,000 N, Baumer covers a multitude of applications. Thanks to their robust sensor bodies they can also be used in areas with high demands. In addition to force sensors, Baumer produces strain sensors for measuring higher forces, which are simple to install in the respective structure.

Technology

Spring body force sensors usually consist of a spring body and strain gauges. The elastic body of the sensor deforms when force is applied, resulting in strain on the material surface. The strain is measured using the strain gauges applied to the surface of the spring body. The strain gauges convert the mechanical strain into an electrical resistance change and act as mechanical-electrical converters. The intelligent connection of the individual strain gauges to a Wheatstone bridge allows the measurement of even the smallest strains thus resulting in high precision. The measured strain generates a voltage change proportional to the force. Compared to strain sensors in which the elastic deformation of the machine structure is used for indirect force measurement, force sensors are installed directly in the force flow, which is also known as direct force measurement.
