Profile sensor for quality control, web edge control and robot positioning
Inline quality control - shape check
The smart 2D profile sensor is deployed for precise, height-based shape control at ultrasonic transducers. The corresponding quality result is used straight away for rejection of bad parts. This way, only good parts will enter the next process step.
Dimensional accuracy check
The smart profile sensor is used to check whether slot and key of floor panels are flawless. The sensor delivers the findings straight to the system. In addition, the changing height profile can be used to detect tool wear at an early stage.
Position control
Easy teaching of the correct component position thanks to Profile Matcher being an integrated tool. Easy identification of component positions by profile comparison. Thanks to integrating varied protocols such as EtherNet/IP, PROFINET, Modbus TCP and OPC UA, the smart profile sensors easily integrate into any control environment.
Robot fine positioning
The laser profile sensor measures the position of the hooks on a suspension device and then navigates the robot arm with pinpoint accuracy to the correct position for attaching injection-molded parts. The compact, light housing and simplified cabling (one-cable solution for power supply and data transmission via Power over Ethernet ) ensure the required at robot arms. Easy integration for quick commissioning.
Robot control in container systems
The OX profile sensors ensure fast positioning and control of robots in a non-shelf container storage system. The particular challenge here is high speed. The sensor is connected directly to the robot without external software; signal transmission to the controller is via IO-Link.

Video - The new sensor class
If the focus is on OK/NOK inspections or positioning tasks by height profile evaluation , the laser profile sensor from the OX series is the ideal solution. A comprehensive toolbox allows for the entire profile data processing straight in the smart sensor. The OX series is perfect for inspection and positioning tasks - such as position checks on feed parts for pick-and-place, tool positioning at robotics or shape control of parts.

Video - Smart profile sensor for robot fine positioning
Swiss automation specialist Roth Technik has developed an all- automatic loading system where robots automatically load any empty hook at electroplating racks. The biggest challenge here the racks are not the same. Every rack is different. The new OX sensor class from Baumer are ideal for this kind of fine tuning at robots.
Video - Smart profile sensors for positioning tasks
The OX series is a clever solution wherever positioning tasks are solved by evaluating height information. A classic example is end-of-arm tooling. A comprehensive set of tools enables complete processing of the profile data directly in the smart sensor – to simplify the user’s work. Watch the interview to find out more.
Video - Solving inspection tasks with smart profile sensors
In the interview you will learn more about how smart 2D profile sensors enable precise, height-based shape control for inspection tasks. Thanks to the integrated, intuitive web interface and a variety of interfaces, integration of these sensors is tailored and simple.
Smart functions
in compact housings for even higher reliability
Quick OK/NOK checks with the Profile Matcher tool
The “Profile Matcher” tool of the OXM profile sensors allows profile matching to be implemented quickly and easily straight in the production process. Teaching-in of good parts and tolerance windows is simply via the intuitive web interface at the push of a button. The measurement result can be converted directly into a switching signal and transmitted straight to the machine. There is no easier way to implement inline quality control.
Optimum measurement result thanks to individually adjustable region of interest (ROI)
The relevant evaluation range can be set very easily via the OX profile sensor's web interface which allows suppression of interference signals. Furthermore, the sensors ensure that only the relevant part of the object is measured. A separate ROI can be defined for each tool (measurement task).
Simple sensor setup thanks to distance-independent measurements
The object to be measured can move within the measuring range, or the distance from the object to the sensor can change (e.g. due to movements in the conveyor belt) without influencing the measurement result. This insensitivity facilitates alignment and positioning of the sensor and contributes significantly to reliable sensor performance in the application.
Flexible mounting option for easy machine integration
The OX profile sensor offset can compensate installation angles up to ± 30° towards the object. The results are output as if the sensor was installed perpendicularly towards the object. The sensor can even process dynamic position changes. This way, any change in the angle between object and sensor during the measuring operation will be automatically corrected by the sensor.
Measurement of unguided objects using position tracking
Product features can be checked reliably in the production process even if the objects are moving on a conveyor belt. Any prominent point of an object can serve for position tracking. For example, maximum height, any edge or the centre of a circle detected can be used. This will compensate position changes of the measured object.
